Much to the dismay of people living on the streets of Boulder, the City Council on Tuesday night voted to remove the ability for the city manager to issue permits that allow people to sleep overnight in public places.

In a unanimous vote, the council decided to remove the authority for the city manager to allow exceptions to the anti-camping ordinance.

Homeless people and advocates previously asked the council to create a streamlined process for issuing the permits as the law allowed. Instead, the council did away with the provision entirely.
