Superheroes take flight
STOCKBRIDGE -- Celebrate the opening of the Norman Rockwell Museum’s new exhibition and meet Alex Ross, acclaimed comic book artist, who has revitalized the world of classic superheroes. "Heroes & Villains: The Comic Book Art of Alex Ross" opens Saturday, Nov. 10 at 6:30 p.m.
Commentary begins at 7 p.m., with artist autographs to follow. $20, $15 teens/students, free for members and children 12 and under. For more info: 413-931-2221.
Norman Rockwell Museum will be open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Sunday, Nov. 11. Starting Monday, Nov. 12, the museum will switch to its seasonal hours of Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and weekends 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The museum will be closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
General public admission is $16 for adults, $14.50 for seniors, $10 for college students, $5 for kids and teens 6 to 18, and free for active military personnel, and kids 5 and under (five per adult). For details and exhibit info: 413-931-2221, nrm.org.

Kids Create!: Wednesday, Nov. 7, 10:30 a.m. Enjoy an exciting, interactive look at the world of art especially for young art lovers, ages two to five, and their caregivers. Children $2, members and grown-ups free.
Superheroes! A Comics Celebration: Saturday, Nov. 24, 1 to 4 p.m. Meet your favorite superheroes and design your own during this fun afternoon of tours, art activities, storytelling and more. Come dressed as your favorite comic book character. Free with Museum admission, members free.

Meet Rockwell’s Models: Friday, Nov. 2, at 2:30 p.m., meet artist Daisy Rockwell, granddaughter of Norman Rockwell, who will share her memories of modeling for her grandfather’s work. Free with museum admission.
Graphic Consciousness: The Visual Culture and Institutions of the Industrial Labor Movement - Saturday, Nov. 3, 5:30 p.m. Join Dr. John Ott, Associate Professor of Art History at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va., for a look at the visual communications related to the industrial labor movement. Free with Museum admission; members free.
In the Studio with Ann Opperman: Friday, Nov. 9, 2:30 p.m. A special afternoon with Norman Rockwell’s secretary, Ann Opperman, whose father designed Rockwell’s Stockbridge studio space. Free with Museum admission, members free.
Mini-Comic Con: A Festival of Comics: Saturday, Nov. 17, 1 to 5 p.m. Celebrate the art of comics during an exciting afternoon of artist talks and demonstrations, workshops, signings, comic book appraisals, and tours of "Heroes & Villains: The Comic Book Art of Alex Ross." BVB Marketing Showcase
PITTSFIELD -- In calendar year 2011, travelers spent an estimated $345 million (a 5.7-percent increase over 2010) in Berkshire County and this growth continued in 2012 with the lodging industry showing a 4.6 percent growth in room revenue through August. In order to continue the momentum, the Berkshire Visitors Bureau unveils its 2013 Strategic Marketing Campaign for the region at its annual meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Elm Court Estate in Lenox.
Prior to the meeting, the BVB provides an opportunity for businesses to talk one-on-one with media reps at its annual Marketing Showcase, where more than 20 local and national media will be represented. These two events combined are the best opportunity for businesses to learn how they can piggy-back on the Bureau’s plans to raise awareness of the Berkshires as a premier destination and to make informed decisions for their own 2013 marketing plans.

Audition call
PITTSFIELD -- Town Players of Pittsfield will hold auditions at Morningside Community School, 100 Burbank St., for a reading of Lee Blessing’s play "Nice People Dancing to Good Country Music" on Nov. 7 and 8 at 6:30 p.m.
Needed for the cast are two women, one in her 20s and one in her 40s, and four men from late teens to 40s. Also wanted is someone, male or female, to sing a few "good" country songs. John Trainor will direct the production, which will be presented on Nov. 25 at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts.
Too Marvelous for Words
PITTSFIELD -- On Nov. 8 at 7 p.m., Sonny and Perley return to the Berkshire Athenaeum, 1 Wendell Ave., for "Too Marvelous for Words," a tribute to Johnny Mercer. One of the foremost figures of 20th century American popular music, Mercer wrote songs like "Shylark," "Accentuate the Positive" and Moon River." Sonny Daye, pianist, and Perley Rousseau, vocalist, were featured performers at the Lee Jazz Festival earlier this year.
Their music is noted for its rich and exotic meld of of lyricism, passion and rhythm.
Sponsored by the Friends of the Berkshire Athenaeum, the concert is free.
Family First Series
LEE -- The Spectrum Playhouse continues its "Family First Saturday at the Spectrum" events with Roger the Jester, Saturday, Nov. 3 at 11 a.m.
This show is free with a suggested donation of $5.
