Aida Comes to the Clark
WILLIAMSTOWN -- "Aida," Giuseppe Verdi’s iconic opera set in ancient Egypt, comes to the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute in the next installment of the Met’s popular Live in HD series on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 12:55 p.m.
In what the New York Times called "an electrically charged and energetic performance,’’ powerhouse Ukrainian soprano Liudmyla Monastyrska makes her Met debut in the title role of an enslaved Ethiopian princess.
Fabio Luisi conducts his first Met performances of the opera. Sonja Frisell’s spectacular staging uses the full theatrical capabilities of the Met stage to immerse the audience in the grandeur of ancient Egypt.
The world premiere of "Aida" took place Dec. 24, 1871 at the Khedivial (Royal) Opera House in Cairo and was an immediate sensation. The opera continues to enrapture audiences around the world.
Approximate running time is 220 minutes with two intermissions.

‘Tales of the Night’ 3D
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Images Cinema continues it’s International Family Film Series with "Tales of the Night" 3D, a animated French film from reknowned animator Michel Ocelot
"We’re so excited about the dramatic improvement in image and sound quality for film presentation at Images, we want to shout it from the rooftops," said Images Cinema’s managing director Janet Curran. "I hope the full spectrum of ages come out for this beautiful film."
David Lane is a painter, sculptor, puppeteer and director based in the Berkshires. His street performances of Punch and Judy toured coast to coast in the both the U.S. and Canada including a day at Lincoln Center’s Out-of-Doors Festival. Currently he teaches theatrical design at BCC and is the Co-Director of the New England Puppet Intensive.
Tales of the Night weaves together six exotic fables each unfolding in a unique locale, from Tibet, to medieval Europe, an Aztec kingdom, the African plains, and even the Land of the Dead. In Ocelot’s storytelling, history blends with fairytale as viewers are whisked off to enchanted lands full of dragons, werewolves, captive princesses, sorcerers, and enormous talking bees - and each fable ends with its own ironic twist.

‘Buying the Farm’
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Tom Fels, author of the recently released "Buying the Farm: Peace and War on a Sixties Commune" (UMass Press, 2012) will give readings at Water Street Books, 26 Water St., Dec. 13 at 6 p.m., and Northshire Bookstore, 4869 Main St. Manchester Center, Vt., Dec. 14 at 7 p.m.
An interview with the author is scheduled on WAMC Albany for Dec. 10, shortly after 10 a.m. Tom Hayden called "Buying the Farm" "a captivating and profound reflection" and "an informative and worthwhile read." Gary Goldberg of "Family Ties" wrote that it was written "with elegance, compassion, and ultimately wisdom." Come see for yourself. Real-life drama
WILLIAMSTOWN -- A Christmas pageant will be held at 6 p.m., on Sunday, Dec. 16 at the Second Congregational Church of Williamstown, 81 Hancock Road, near Five Corners.
In this year’s production, a performance of the Sunday School pageant has only just gotten underway when a poverty-stricken young mother (played by Hope Willis) and her small daughter (Lucy Igoe) come running into the sanctuary with their angry landlord (played by Hank Barrett) in hot pursuit.
The pastor (played by Miranda Dils) persuades the three to stay and watch the pageant. To find out what happens next, come to the Dec. 16 performance. For more info:
