Well, if that doesn't take the wind out of your sails the week of Valentine's Day ...
Yes, I am talking about the closing of The Store at Five Corners.
I may not have been here a long time, but I certainly have found that store to be a savior on more than one occasion.
Whether it was gifts for the family back home, a quick stop for lunch on the way to a hike, or a pit stop to "strech the legs," I feel like I have done it all at Five Corners since I've been in the Berkshires.
It really took the steam out of my planned ode to the City of Lights - it was electric!
But I just felt that the store was a pretty big deal.
I definitly think it needed better parking. It was tricky getting in and out, especially if you didn't know where you were going.
And I also think, remembering my first time there, it came up suddenly, and I almost drove right past it.
In fact, I might have done just that, but I needed to go back, anyway.
And hats off to reporter Alex Elvin for being on top of it. The whole situation came up almost as fast as the store.
Things like this usually do.
Odd, how quick the longest continuously operating store in the country came to a close. The oasis that was Five Corners in
the commute between Pittsfield and Williamstown was key.
Well, on to a certainly more cheery subject - wild animals.

Helpful, with the abundant amounts that fell last weekend.
If it's anything like my scouting days, it will mostly be foxes and deer, maybe a bear, maybe someone will spot a Catamount.
