WILLIAMSTOWN -- Wild Oats Market, a cooperatively owned market specializing in local and organic foods, is coordinating a tour of Ioka Valley Farm’s maple sugaring operation in Hancock, on Saturday, March 9, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Come and spend some time at this beautiful local farm, learning about the late-winter New England tradition of maple sugaring. The tour will show how maple sap is collected and transported to the sugar house, how it is boiled, and how the sugar makers know when sap has been transformed into pure maple syrup. We will sample Ioka’s syrup and other maple products, and learn about the different grades of syrup and the difference between pure maple syrup and processed maple syrup substitutes.

The tour will last approximately 30 minutes (a little longer if there are lots of questions). All tour participants will receive a coupon for 40 percent off breakfast, lunch or a snack in the Ioka Valley Farm "Calf-A" that day. The Ioka "Calf-A" serves a true farm-style breakfast, with homemade pancakes, waffles and French toast to accompany their fresh maple syrup. Tour participants will also receive a Wild Oats coupon, good for $2 off any local product(s) costing $10 or more. Wild Oats Market has been supporting local farms since 1982 and is proud to be a driving force in the local farm economy in Berkshire County and the nearby farming communities of Southern Vermont and New
