NORTH ADAMS -- The North Adams Museum of History and Science announces that its new Temporary Exhibit: "The Larger Picture: Oversized Framed Photographs and Certificates" is now on display in the first floor gallery of Building 5A in Western Gateway Heritage State Park. The exhibit can be viewed during regular hours in April, Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 4 p.m., with the exception of the 25th Annual Meeting of the North Adams Historical Society Sunday April 21. In May, Summer hours go into effect: Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free; the exhibit is handicapped accessible.
Unfortunately, these oversized items are usually kept in storage. It is difficult to display frames three, four and even five-feet long and others two-and-a-half- or three-feet high. Consequently most have not been viewed by the public for many years. They include a fabulous mixture of historical settings such as Penniman’s "Band at the Pageant," June 1914; Order of Odd Fellows Certificate granting dispensation to open a Mount Greylock female order, Lodge #9645; International Order of Machinists Charter to open an independent North Adams Lodge to be known as "Schuyler" #1794; American Red Cross Ambulance Corps #13, Camp Devens (with local participants); B&M, B&A Railroad employees Outing & Flat Rock Fry, Hoosac Valley Park; Annual Merchant Association Outing; and the Annual North Adams Retail Clerks’ Association Outing, Charlemont.
