When I was a teenager, I helped harvest hay along Stratton Road. The hayfields stretched down the road on both sides from Blair Road to where Cobble View Road is now. Along that whole stretch of road there were nine houses. Significant development on Stratton Road began in the 1960s, and now there are 41 single family houses, a large (for Williamstown) condominium complex, and multiple town houses on Stratton Road between Blair Road and Cobble View Road.
On April 24, we, the residents of Williamstown, will have the opportunity to add 41 affordable houses on 10 acres of land next to the condominium complex and adjacent to 20 acres of recreational/open space. The bonus is that at the same time, using grant money, we can purchase the current Spruces Mobile Home Park and transform it into a recreational/open space area while protecting that portion of the park currently in agricultural use.
I sincerely hope that we as a Town do not miss this opportunity to make a positive impact on both our affordable housing and our recreational opportunities while at the same time helping the residents of The Spruces.
