Great news this week, as our regular contributor Telly Halkias took second place in the National Society of Newspaper Columnists 2013-14 writing awards.
It's a great honor to have a decorated writer contributing regularly to our publication.
I will not hesitate to say that Telly saved me on more than a few occasions when I took over The Advocate about a year ago.
There were definitely weeks in the beginning where I thought, "My goodness, how am I going to fill the paper this week?" And Telly always came through.
And not just with stories, as his advice helped me out while I struggled to make heads and tails of running an entire publication.
I would also like to praise my wonderful foresight at keeping Telly on board, once it was decided The Advocate would have to tighten its belt. I kid, because it wasn't a hard decision, and one of the better ones I have made.
Also, make sure you wish him a happy belated birthday.

More good news: The planter that was stolen from Spring Street last week was reported returned as of Monday morning. A big thumbs up to the Tunnel City patrons who helped move the planter back to its original location, and to the Garden Club for putting it there in the first place.
