PITTSFIELD -- The Albany Berkshire Ballet is holding open auditions for its 2012 Annual Nutcracker Tour of the Northeast. Local auditions will be held Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Cantarella School of Dance, at 116 Fenn St.
Auditions are open to all local boys and girls age 4 and up. Auditions are as follows: ages 4-5, 10 a.m.; ages 6-8, 11 a.m.; ages 9 and up, 1 p.m. The audition fee is $15.
The Nutcracker tour will run from Nov. 18 through Dec. 16. Performances will take place at the Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield, and at the McConnell Theater’s Daniel Arts Center in Great Barrington.

Ballet HD
WILLIAMSTOWN - The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute adds ballet to its repertoire of performance broadcasts this season, presenting HD recordings of live productions from some of Europe’s greatest dance companies. The series opens at 1 p.m., on Sunday, Sept. 23, with George Balanchine’s masterpiece, Jewels.
The famed Mariinsky Ballet performs one of Balanchine’s most revered ballets, set to the music of Faure, Stravinsky, and Tchaikovsky. Ulyana Lopatkina, Igor Zelensky, and Andrian Fadeyev perform all three sections of this homage to the three golden ages of dance, "Emeralds," "Rubies," and "Diamonds." Tugan Sokhiev
Followed by Moretti and Monteverdi’s Caravaggio, Sunday, Oct. 14, at 1 p.m. The Staatsballett Berlin performs choreographer Mauro Bigonzetti’s contemporary ballet based on the life of the famed painter, featuring Beatrice Knop, Polina Semionova, and Vladimir Malakhov. Paul Connelly conducts.
