BIFF call for entries
GREAT BARRINGTON -- The 2013 Berkshire International Film Festival announced a call for submissions for feature, documentary and short films. Selected films will be chosen by the end of March and announced in April.
The eighth annual festival will be held May 30 to June 2, 2013 at the Triplex Cinema, the historical Mahaiwe Theatre, the Beacon Cinema and other venues throughout Great Barrington and Pittsfield. The submissions deadline is March 1, 2013.
The 2013 festival plans to showcase nearly 75 of the best films that are currently being produced in independent filmmaking. The festival will once again feature an audience award and a juried prize for documentary and narrative feature films sponsored by GWFF. The Juried Prize will carry a $5,000 cash prize.
Films may be submitted by sending the completed forms to P. O. Box 237, Great Barrington, MA 01230. Passes for the 2013 Festival will go on sale Nov. 1. For submission forms, rules, tickets and further info: biffma.org.
October Mountain hike
The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), a New Deal program during the Great Depression, gave unemployed men a job and improved nation’s parks and forests. The CCC inspired a recreational heritage that we still enjoy today.
On Saturday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. join Alec Gillman, Park Interpreter, for an exploration of the
Moderate one-and-a-half mile hike with 600 ft. elevation gain, two-and-a-half hours duration. Meet at the intersection of Woodland Road and Valley St. in Lee, a dirt pull-over area. A shuttle van will be available for transport to the trail head. Wear appropriate clothing for fall weather and rugged footwear. Bring water, snack and lunch. Rain or shine. The Story of Film
PITTSFIELD -- Berkshire Museum’s Little Cinema will screen The Story of Film: An Odyssey, every Thursday at 7 p.m., beginning Oct. 18, and running through Dec. 13 (there will be no showing on November 22 in observance of Thanksgiving). Each screening is $5; patrons can buy a pass for all 8 screenings for $25.
The Story of Film: An Odyssey is an unprecedented cinematic event, an epic journey through the history of world cinema that is a treat for movie lovers around the globe. Guided by film historian Mark Cousins, this bold 15-part love letter to the movies begins with the invention of motion pictures at the end of the 19th century and concludes with the multi-billion dollar globalized digital industry of the 21st. Little Cinema will show two parts of the documentary at each screening.

Stars in Shorts
PITTSFIELD -- Berkshire Museum’s Little Cinema will screen Stars in Shorts on Oct. 13 at noon, Oct. 14 at 8 p.m., and Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Each screening is $5.
On the heels of the annual Oscar-Nominated Short Films program, ShortsHD presents Stars in Shorts, an incredible collection of short films featuring some of the world’s biggest actors. Dame Judi Dench is a neophyte in the complicated landscape of internet dating in "Friend Request Pending." Colin Firth is an unusually needy neighbor to Keira Knightley in "Steve."
