NORTH ADAMS -- During the April school vacation week, MASS MoCA's Education Department will offer its second annual Spring Break Art Detox, a series of three workshops for children ages 5 to 12 (parents are welcome to accompany them). Workshops will run from 9 to 11 a.m. April 17 to 19.
Each session will offer two art projects and healthy snacks. The workshops will focus on themes of recycling and giving back to nature, in celebration of Earth Day on Monday, April 22. Participants can sign up for one, two or all three sessions. Projects are structured so that children can be dropped off to work independently, or can be worked on as a family.
Wednesday, April 17, projects kick off with make-your-own terrariums, which will bring some green into the home. Hands will get dirty by making some earth friendly non-edible dirt cupcakes. Thursday, April 18, give back to nature. Create one-of-a-kind birdhouses and seed bookmarks that can be planted. Friday, April 19, take a step in the right direction. Create a personalized stepping-stone to put in the yard and make a magical bubble wand with which to dance around in the sunshine. Children will help prepare a healthy snack every day. Please alert the education department in advance if your child has any food allergies.
The cost of Art Detox is $7 per child for member families, $10 per child for not-yet-members. Pre-registration is required.
