NORTH ADAMS -- The Department of Conservation and Recreation’s Visitors Museum at Western Gateway Heritage State Park will present, as part of its Civil War 150 Years Series, an illustrated lecture, "Siege of Vicksburg," on Saturday, May 18 at 3 p.m.
The Confederate surrender following the siege at Vicksburg is sometimes considered, when combined with General Robert E. Lee’s defeat at Gettysburg, the turning point of the war. This illustrated lecture will recreate the siege and discuss the prelude to Gettysburg.
Western Gateway Heritage State Park is located south of the Hadley Overpass on Route 8. The Visitors Museum is in Building 4. Information: 413-663-6312.
