NORTH ADAMS -- The Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice of Northern Berkshire will host a four-part series on end-of-life issues entitled "The Final Season." The panel discussions are scheduled for Thursdays, Oct. 17 and 24, and Nov. 7 and 14 at the community room at the United Cerebral Palsy building, 535 Curran Highway. Each event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.
The first panel, on Thursday, Oct. 17, will include Erwin Stuebner, M.D., and Paul Rosenthal, M.D. presenting "From Diagnosis to Decisions," a discussion to help participants explore this season of life from a medical perspective.
The second panel, on Thursday, Oct. 24, will include attorney James Sisto and funeral director Nick Flynn discussing legal ramifications and celebrating one’s life.
On Thursday, Nov. 7, Beth Mougin, LCSW, will explore the emotional aspects of the end-of-life experience and the grief process.
On Thursday, Nov. 14, Pastor Dave Anderson of the First Baptist Church and Gloria Richard, RN, from the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire, will explore the benefits and blessings of hospice care, and how spirituality can affect how one faces the end-of-life experience.
"We hope people will join us for these discussions, to listen to and interact with practitioners, and explore this season of life that impacts us all physically, emotionally, legally, financially and spiritually," said Pastor Anderson, hospice chaplain.
Pre-registration is not required. Participants may attend any or all of the sessions.
