Postal food drive
PITTSFIELD - Local 286 of the National Association of Letter Carriers, in conjunction with the U.S. Postal Service and Berkshire United Way, will be conducting its Spring Food Drive Saturday, May 10.
Letter carriers in Pittsfield, Adams, Williamstown, North Adams, Great Barrington and Lee will be collecting nonperishable items for later distribution by volunteers from Berkshire United Way, Berkshire Community Action Council and Taconic High School students from Berkshire Youth United.
Kagan award
PITTSFIELD - Nominations are being accepted for the 2008 Dr. David B. Kagan Awards for Outstanding Volunteerism.
Each year since the late 1970s, the Rotary Club of Pittsfield has recognized members of the community who have greatly contributed their time and talents to the many religious and human service organizations throughout central Berkshire County.
The award is given to one man and one woman annually who do something for society outside their occupation or profession, above and beyond the normal expectation. People from all stations of life are eligible.

Parade deadline
PITTSFIELD - The deadline for applicants to appear in this year's 4th of July parade, "A World of Music," is May 15.
The parade committee now meets twice a month. The next two meetings are scheduled for May 14 and May 28 beginning at 7 p.m. at Morningside School on Burbank Street. Those who plan to volunteer in any capacity should attend.
Organizations interested in being in the parade get an application form online at pittsfieldparade.com or via e-mail at info@pittsfieldparade.com by May 15. Donations may be sent to the Pittsfield Parade Committee Inc., PO Box 1738, Pittsfield MA 01202.
