Mill City auditions
NORTH ADAMS -- Mill City Productions is pleased to announce audition dates for its upcoming production of the romantic comedy, "Almost, Maine" by John Cariani. The production will be directed by Jeremy LaCrosse.
On a cold, clear, moonless night in the middle of winter, all is not quite what it seems in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine.
As the northern lights hover in the star-filled sky above, Almost’s residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken. But the bruises heal, and the hearts mend - almost - in this delightful midwinter night’s dream.
Auditions will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8 and Sunday, Dec. 9 from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Mill City Theatre in Building 4N (next to the Visitor’s Center) of the Western Gateway Heritage State Park. Adults of all ages and experience levels are invited to audition. Auditioners will be asked to read scenes from the play; no prepared monologues are necessary. Rehearsals will begin after Christmas with performances scheduled for Feb. 8, 10 and 15 and 17. Due to the structure of the play - nine, 10-minute vignettes - a flexible number of actors is needed and up to 19 will be cast. First Friday
BENNINGTON -- Bennington Contradance presents its "First Friday" intergenerational community dance at the One World Conservation Center (former Howard Johnson’s) just south of Bennington on US7, Friday, Dec. 7 from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.
Caller Luke Donforth will teach all dances. Live irresistibly danceable music by Spare Parts. Everyone is welcome, all dances are taught, and no partner or experience is necessary.

St. Peter’s Christmas Tea
BENNINGTON -- This year angels abound at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church Christmas Tea. They will be found scattered among the candles and greens in the Parish Hall at St. Peter’s. At 3 p.m. the festivities begin with trays of cookies and tea sandwiches. Wait staff will also serve tea, coffee and punch. The Christmas Shoppe is open for you to shop for small gifts, jams and jellies, breads and Christmas tree ornaments. The cost for the tea is $6. Dance at Bennington
BENNINGTON -- Coming up, Bennington College sets the stage for performances by the college’s student choreographers .
On Dec. 6 at 7 p.m., dance studio E303 VAPA hosts performances of works-in-progress, followed on Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. by a studio dance concert featuring works by current Bennington students.

Santa Lucia Festival of Light
ARLINGTON -- Once again, the Arlington Community and visiting travelers are invited to share in the Santa Lucia Festival of Lights, Saturday, Dec. 8.
The day starts with a Arlington Garden Club Craft Fair at the Arlington Community House and Holiday Open Houses at Arlington and Manchester Inns and B&B’s from noon to 4 p.m.
Santa will be visiting the Community House at 4 p.m. with a Christmas Tree and Luminary Lighting and Community Carol Sing also at 4 p.m. in front of the Community House, followed by the Santa Lucia Pageant at 5 p.m. at the St. James Church across the street, and concluding with a Community Swedish Church Supper at 6 p.m. Inn to Inn tours, including Inns & B&B’s in Manchester are $15 and the Church Supper is a free-will offering, all other events are free to the public with a donation requested benefiting local community food cupboards.
St. James Episcopal Church, located in the center of the Village of Arlington, will once again host the Santa Lucia Pageant, which begins at 5 p.m. The pageant is an annual tradition set around the story of Santa Lucia and includes carol singing, readings and pageant participation by local youth and adults. The celebration honoring the Italian-born Santa Lucia, actually originated from 16th century Germany, and later spread to Sweden and other Scandinavian countries. Santa Lucia was fabled to have been a healer and spreader of light and love, and during this darkest time of the year the community comes together to honor her and welcome light into what can often be a bleak mid-winter.
Because Santa Lucia was known for her courage in dispensing food to the hungry and poor in times of persecution. This tradition of community giving is continued in the context of this annual event, as attendees are encouraged to bring donations of non-perishable foods for the Arlington Food Shelf to the pageant or to make a free-will offering at any of the events.

Community Tree Lighting
BENNINGTON -- Bennington’s Community Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held Friday, Dec. 7, at the Vermont Veterans’ Home Lawn at 5 p.m. with singing, hot chocolate, candy canes, and Santa Claus. Come help the resident Veterans kick off the Holiday Season with style and good cheer. Everyone is invited to celebrate. A short Commemorative Ceremony of Pearl Harbor will be in the program. The MAUHS Chorus will lead the singing.
