STOCKBRIDGE -- This October, IS183 will host three events in three days that will inspire and engage both adults and children.
Thursday, Oct. 3
"With A Grain of Salt," an installation by the artists Cynthia Atwood and Beck Balken, opens at Citizens Hall in Stockbridge at 6 p.m.
"With A Grain of Salt" was made possible by IS183’s Citizens’ Hall Residency,a program that helps to raise the profile of visual arts in Berkshire County and provides community members with opportunities for cultural engagement and participation in the arts. Balken and Atwood, have produced significant bodies of work individually and exhibited widely before embarking on this project. Atwood’s work investigates how we perceive the world beyond our immediate reality, while Balken’s artistic output is a study of persona, self and consciousness, and how spiritual emergence of the self unfolds over time - their collaborative installation explores these themes.
Friday, Oct. 4
IS183 hosts the opening of "Anatemno: I Cut Up, Cut Open" by the artists Lucie Castaldo and Holly MacDonald at the Onota Building Storefront gallery at 74 North St. in Pittsfield, from 5 to 8 p.m.
"Anatemno", a non-traditonal look at human anatomy, features works that use cut paper, fiber and up-cycled materials to explore anatomy - always an important piece of any artist’s training.
Saturday, Oct. 5
Kids of all ages are invited to bring cardboard and creativity to the Little Red Schoolhouse in Williamstown for the Berkshire Cardboard Challenge between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The Berkshire Cardboard Challenge, is inspired by the International Day of Play, an annual event sponsored by the Imagination Foundation and inspired by "Caine’s Arcade," that invites kids around the world to design and build awesome creations using cardboard, recycled materials and imagination. Artists will be on hand as facilitators as kids of all ages play with cardboard. Families are particularly encouraged to attend.
IS183 will offer 10 percent off any of the fall "Making Art Together" family programs to those registering onsite, and will raffle a gift certificate to any class in the fall/winter catalog.
